Dispatchers Response to Domestic Violence

Presentation by: Chief Donald Sullivan, Alexandria Police Department

Domestic Violence calls are one of the most dangerous and complex calls that Police Officers respond to. The dispatcher taking the initial call is in the unique position to provide critical safety information to the first responding officers that could save their lives. The Dispatcher also can bolster the criminal case with information gathered during the call. Finally, the Dispatcher can lay the groundwork for all Law Enforcement contact with the victim as they are likely the first person the victim will have contact with.
